People often ask me, “Why not run for council?”
I believe Ingersoll needs a strong voice not only around the Town council table, but also
at the County Council table.
I have followed County Council closely and have presented to it on issues ranging from
the King Street West project to the landfill fight, with mixed success. My experience has
taught me that if you want to influence decisions, you need to be at the table, build
relationships, listen, and keep working.
As your Mayor and County Councillor, one issue I will pursue is bringing the property tax
rate for multi-residential buildings built before 2018 closer to the rate applied to newer
construction.
Many of these older buildings provide reasonably priced housing without County
subsidies and are home to long-term tenants. Protecting these existing affordable rental
units is just as important as building new ones. We should be looking for ways to reduce
the pressure that can lead to renovictions and condo conversions.
Tim.
